Who we are
A small team with a big mission
Mission statement
Our mission and purpose is to rescue abandoned, injured, special-needs, and homeless cats on our Hawaiian islands, and to provide urgent medical care.
Much of our effort is currently on Molokaʻi, which has no veterinary office or spay and neuter service of its own. Our volunteers fight daily to save cats from euthanasia due to overpopulation and lack of resources. Our goal is to advocate awareness, educate, and save cats from harsh conditions in the wild through TNRM, adoption, foster care, and networking.
What we do
Critical cases
We take on a lot of the most critical cats that need emergency vet care. Our incredible community fundraises to cover vet bills.
Rescue
We go above and beyond to rescue a feline in need, whether it be down a storm drain or on a highway.
Foster
The heart of cat rescue. Fosters open up their homes to care for and socialize our feline friends to prepare them for their forever homes.
TNRM
Trap, Neuter, Return, and Manage. The most humane way to control a stray cat population, letting cats that cannot adapt to family life live their best lives.
Adopt
We adopt out cats and kittens to homes that will love them and let them become part of the family for life.
Meet the team
A letter from our founder
Rescue Kitties of Hawaiʻi is a very small group of dedicated, hardworking volunteers who work around the clock to save the most critical kitties in medical need on the island of Oʻahu. Every day we are pulling sick, injured, tortured, shot, abused, cats/kittens used as live bait in dog fighting, poisoned cats, etc., in dire need of help and urgent medical care. There are no No-Kill shelters to drop them off to be treated. We lovingly do it all ourselves.
You can imagine being on a small island with limited resources, plus with the COVID-19 pandemic, how this has created gridlock and backlog in the veterinary services. All cats require access to spay/neuter, vaccines, and affordable medical care. Most of the kitties are pulled from the streets/wild in need of critical emergency vet care. Our funds are continuously depleted and we cannot keep up with the overwhelming demand to save all our Hawaiian kitties, which is our passion and daily goal.
Finding quality adopters in Hawaiʻi is very difficult. There is a lot of paperwork, vet visits, and planning required to fly cats out of Hawaiʻi. Plus, the airfare costs are high. Most domesticated cats are abandoned, dumped, and pushed out the door to fend for themselves in the wild when their "families" move off the island.
RKH has been very successful at shipping hundreds of cats to our non-profit rescue partners in many different states on the mainland. There is a higher demand for adoptable kitties there, and safe, indoor, quality homes. And, we want this success to continue with the help of our amazing donors, volunteers, and fundraisers, we are most grateful for everyone's help and participation to save our Hawaiian kitties.

Rescue Kitties of Hawaiʻi is proud to be a partner of the Orphan Kitten Club, an organization dedicated to providing care, support, and resources for neonatal and orphaned kittens in need. Through this partnership, we collaborate to ensure more vulnerable kittens receive the medical care, foster arrangements, and nurturing they require during their most critical early days.
By teaming up, we extend our reach and strengthen our capacity to save more lives. Because no kitten should be forced to survive alone.
